bed and breakfast in ohio?
I want to take my hubby to a B&B next month, I have found 3 of them allin the Amish country of Ohio. All seem very nice with private cabins and all the things Im looking for. Question is: is it safe for a black couple to go to that part of Ohio? Is it alot of discrimination in those areas? Just wondering because i want us to have a good time. Also, if u have any suggestions of any type of little romantic weekend places in and around northeastern Ohio, please drop a line....Thanx
There are a couple of areas in Ohio that are considered Amish country. Which areas are you thinking about? Middlefield? Dover/New Philadelphia? Which ever one you go to, you won't have any problem with discrimination.
If you're going to the Middlefield area, there's not a whole lot to see. About the only place I can think of that may be of interest, and if you can get there for a tour, is the Middlefield Cheese Factory. www.middlefieldcheese.com Burton, Ohio (close to Middlefield) has a very nice B&B. My ex and I had to stay there (we were living in Auburn at the time) because our power went out for a few days.
If you're going farther south to the Dover/New Philadelphia area, there are all kinds of interesting shops there. That area is just beautiful! Be sure to visit the shop that has the coo-coo clocks. I don't remember the name of the place, but just ask around. Everyone around there knows of it. Be sure to go upstairs and watch the "life-size" coo-coo clock chime.
But, whichever Amish area you go to, please be very careful driving. The Amish buggies are sometimes hard to see at night. During the day, you can be coming up over a little hill in the road, doing 55 MPH, and run up on a buggie thats just over the hill. Be safe and have fun!
