Is it Common for rats to choose their Favorite Human?
I am a fairly new owner of 3 young ratie girls, with wildly varying personalities and I am noticing that my one girl Sheska who is this ADORABLE black berkshire with a white spot on her head, prefers my fiance over me. He could cuddle with him for hours, and will often do so for hours, if I take her our in the morning to see him before I leave for work.
Riza my black english Irish is very much my buddy, while Winry just wants anyone to be her friend.
Is it common for Rats to pick a favorite human if more than one is caring for them? I do all of the feeding, watering, and maintenance since they were my idea and are technically mine.
My fiance wasn't wild about getting rats, but Knew I wanted them...now he LOVES them.
Lol It doesn't hurt my feelings, I actually find it a bit funny, because his initial Idea to getting Rats was "Ew..Are they clean" and now Ratatat play time is one of his favorite times of the day.
Sure. Since every rat has his or her individual personality, they can become especially fond of a human for his or her characteristics. So far most of our rats have favored me but a couple have definately shown preference to my SO (who said a *very* bad word when I told him I wanted rats but of course he loves 'em now).
I've learned it's important for rats to meet a variety of people or they can *also* become fearful of all but 1 or 2 humans. Before my SO became really involved with our rats, he interacted with them so little that they didn't trust him. I found it hilarious when 4 of them gathered in 1 corner of their cage to "huff" @ him when he passed by, but it wasn't so cute when my sweet gentle Pogo actually *bit* him the 1st time he tried to pet her. They became friends afterward
