1940 Cedar People "Waterfall" Hope Chest style?
Hi, I have a style waterfall cedar hope chest, were so popular in the 1940s. I inherited from my grandmother. Can I safely store extra linens and of wool in the chest, or will be in contact with the cedar harm them? Also, is it safe to store items such as letters and photos, or will Cedar harm them? What types of items were for this piece. Also, there is a small shelf that is detached, it is almost the width of the chest, but I can not say where he was supposed to go or how it was originally set. If anyone has an idea or a link to an image of the inside of one of these types of breasts, I would appreciate it. I asked my grandmother, but I inherited from the room after she died. Thank you
I agree with Helen above, the small shelf or walks the cover or slide on a rim just above the chest. As for storage, everyone above is correct except that I do not wrap items in acid free tissue, I always include a few Packett desiccant to absorb moisture and humidity and I keep letters and articles of paper tissues Acid-free, not plastic. What a wonderful memory of your grandmother for you to treasure!
