How do I color a pencil drawing on the computer using GIMP?
I really suck at drawing stuff on the computer, so I don't. I drew something with a pencil that I've scanned in and tried a bunch of ways of coloring, but they all look like crap.
It's not detailed or anything. How can I color it so that it doesn't look bad?
I have the same problem. Inking through the line art is messy, stressful and difficult. But I do the following:
1. Open the sketch on GIMP.
2. Open a new layer, and change the mode to Multiply.
3. Once the layer is set to Multiply, you can easilly color it. Keep opening new layes, never color all the sketch with the same one.
If you want to clean the sketch first, use the Magic Tool Wand, and click on your sketch. You can go to Edit, and then click on Cut. To make it lighter, go to Filters> Artistic> Soft Glow. And then, to make it look like it was inked, go to Filters> Artistic> Cartoon.
That's what I sometimes do. But it's much neater if you learn how to use the Pen Tool.
