How do I move a couch-zilla through a narrow doorway?
It's a sleeper sofa measures 88in. long by 31 3/4 in from front to back. The doorway is exactly 31 3/4 in wide.
Stand the couch up on end on a heavy piece of plastic on the floor before you move it to the doorway. Remove the legs if they are removable. Some just screw into the frame. You can also pop the hinge pins on the door and take off the door to make it easier.
You need at least 2 people to maneuver a sleeper sofa, it's heavy. The position of the couch upon APPROACHING the doorway is critical.
Slide it to the doorway, and pull the bottom end into the doorway, twisting the widest part of the couch (probably the 'back') into the dooraway and AROUND the side of the doorway first, bottom end first.
The 'v' of the couch, the seat part MUST face the doorpost. At that point the couch is on a slant, leaning out, so one person MUST be outside the doorway.
Pull it through until the TOP clears the door frame and stand it up again. By that time it's through the doorway.
