A Tanner a week (that would be sixpence, for a six day working week) sixpence was Half of one shilling, there were 20 shillings in a £ where now there are 100 "new pennies" to a pound, so it would be two and a half new-pence per week..and that was good for 1895, my Great Granfather got that for working on the railways!!
