Re-doing an old credenza?
I have an older credenza that's very sturdy but in disrepair. I want to re-make it into something fabulous. It's about 3 1/2 feet high, stained a dark brown color and has 3 sliding doors with diamond motifs. Any ideas?
The first thing you will have to do is remove the years of dirt and old wax. I would recommend a warm solution of TSP(trisodium phospate) and water and a little dishwashing detergent. I would then wipe on a dark colored gel stain over the whole cabinet and wipe off any excess. This will cover alot of the scratches. Buy a dark touch up marker or simply use a dark magic marker to color in any scratches the stain doesn't cover Let this dry and apply a couple of coats of semi gloss polyurethane. If you really want to make it nice before you apply polyurethane take some nail polish remover and rub some of the finish off the diamonds so they are lighter than rest of the cabinet.
