Im trying to write a story- but having a few problems? Can anyone help?
I have to write a fantastical short story. We were given the scenario in class.
You are running to get catch the train. You grab your ticket and runa cross the platform, when all of a sudden you see your double.
I have a few ideas but i need to build this up into a story, adding description to it and atmosphere. I am a bit stuck on how to do that? Any suggestions on how i can do this, so i can finish this story off?
The part im finding hard is how to build to the climx of seeing my double on the train, and how to start the beginning of the story? Im having writers block.
You will need to decide the path of your story and the story should follow.
Is your doppelganger going to continue with your path and continue with your life? Do they behave exactly as you would? Do they live your life better? Do they appear to be sabotaging it? Is it an abandoned twin back with avengence? How will you thwart her plan and convince others you are you?
Is your double leading a separate existence, unaware of you and is the result of a monumentous struggle in your consciousness to make a life-changing decision and has resulted in two separate beings living out the consequences of the two options? This could have been made the night before the story or earlier in the character's life to give a more striking difference. It could end with an acceptence of this decision or more depressingly a mental breakdown as the person sees what could have been or contemplates the number of key decisions she has taken and is still to take.
Decide on the mood and thought processes of your main character at each part of the story before choosing to pick out detail around them to reflect it.
Disbelief/trying to make sense of the unbelievable: all the sound/colour and movement fades/switches to a blur apart from her own face on someone else
Shock- feeling faint and light as if the existence of the other made her body question her own
Urgency/panic when she loses sight - clocks/flicker boards/the pulsing sounds of trains passing through underground stations.
