Will a 16 ft truck be big enough for move? (Items listed)?
Moving out of my parents, my friend is moving out of a bachelor. Below are the items we have that need to be moved and we've booked a 16 foot moving truck. All items will be moved at the same time (hopefully)
- Double bed and boxspring
- Queen bed and boxspring
- Loveseat
- Coffee table
- Entertainment unit (roughly 6 feet by 2 feet)
- Big screen tv (it's big, and boxy. I'm guessing 60 inches across total? Pure guess)
- Possibly a small dresser
- 20 boxes or so
- Other small items (example: small barstools, a floor fan, etc.)

Sounds like what is also known as a one ton truck. It will be more than big enough. Things like mattresses and box springs are loaded vertical and then tied to the wall of the truck or placed long side to the floor. They should go in first. Then you start placing other items between or against them. The loveseat could go between them on its feet, coffee table upside down on that, then fill in spaces around those with boxes.The entertainment unit should also go against the wall of the truck and be tied down. Don't spread things out on the floor in the truck unless they're tied down or are low and sit flat on the floor like boxes do. Rule of thumb is that things that are loose tend to move forward in a vehicle, so pack more things up towards the front of the truck unless they're tied down. Furniture blankets come in very handy if you can rent some of those. Twenty would not be too many. They can be placed around things so the tie downs don't scratch or dent surfaces, they can be tossed over furniture to keep it clean when you pile boxes on it, they can wrap awkward shaped items like the fan and barstools so they don't rattle around, they can be placed under mattresses so they don't get slivers or dirt from the truck floor. The flat screen TV would be best in its own box but if you don't have that any more, place it with the flat side against the wall of the truck with a furniture blanket or two between it and the wall and another blanket around the back. And tie it down.
