How would i go about remodeling my furniture?
I have a medium shade of wooden furniture currently painted green. I wanna get some paint thinner or remover or whatever then stain it darker. How do i go about doing this, like what steps do i take, or would this be a completely bad idea that would never work??
Stripping furniture is a tedious process. Especially if there are carvings or spindles involved. Zip strip will remove paint. It's about the best/ You need to wear protective gloves and eye wear and cover yourself in clothing. It will burn exposed skin if it splashes on it. You need a scraper and a cardboard box to put the scrapings in, You apply it with a paint brush and when it pickles you scrape it off. When you have 99% of it off you wash it down with a wet rag and let it dry then begin the sanding process going from a Med/course grade to a fine grade. Then you can stain it to your color preference and seal it with your choice of sealers. You need to research what stains (oil and water base) and finishes ( shellac varnish polyurethane) work best for your pieces.
Pitfalls are many.
Be sure you aren't working with a veneer that has very special considerations.
Be sure to use the proper equipment to sand or you can make an uneven or gouged surface.
Be sure you use compatible stain and sealer
