Mountain Mahogany Tobacco Pipes?
I am curious if anyone knows the value of Mountain Mahogany and if so where could I sell some tobacco pipes made from it? I have hand carved many of them and would like to get rid of some but people that have offered to buy them are asking for them at prices below $5.00 a piece. The wood itself is worth about $10.00 + a square inch so a hand carved piece should be pretty valuable considering...shouldn't it? The wood is a very beautiful light color with nice red discoloring in some pieces that gives it a very good rustic look or many that are purely light colored...so why is every one asking for them so cheap?
Speaking as a fellow craftsperson, it's awful being undervalued. You need the right market. Have you considered setting up a website? A decent craft fair with proper craftspeople exhibiting? (This means the kind where you have to audition). It's so frustrating showing my large patchwork quilts, only to hear some idiot saying, why are they so expensive, they're only made from odd bits of material! Yes, and they took 200 hours, and the fabrics cost £100, and I've paid £40 to stand here listening to you.
