Is this an old wives tale?
My mother in law told me to start toughening up my nipples right now with a rough towel to prep for breastfeeding. She also said that you need to disinfect your nipples before and after each feeding and then apply a cream.
Is this true? Because she's the queen of Old Wives' Tales...she puts a pot of undiluted Pine-Sol on the stove and boils it when anyone in the house gets sick. The fumes fill the air and it's supposed to "kill the germs." Which of course makes my asthma go nuts, doesn't work, (everyone always gets sick anyway) and makes the air cloudy and noxious. Lol. There's no way I'm letting her do that while I'm pregnant though....
Does the nipple cream taste bad, or is it bad for baby if you leave it on till the next time when baby feeds, or do you wipe/wash it off?

To toughen your nipples, allow them air exposure. Walk around topless! LOL I know your husband won't mind!! 
Your nipples NEVER need to be washed with anything other than plain water, and don't need a cream unless you experience cracking while beginning to nurse (in that case try Lansinoh or something). It doesn't have to be wiped off before nursing.
