What do I need to set up a Home Network. I have a Dell Desk Top a Toshiba Laptop and Epson Printer?
I've read up on the subject, I have the book by Tony Campbell and Andy Edney I have BT Voyager 220V ADSL Voice Router and BT Voyager 210 ADSL Router, 50 metres of CAT 5 cable and have a technical background, so wires and connections are not a problem.
However, even after reading I am not clear whether I have all I need.
You need a network. A local area network, (lan,) would be your desktop and laptop. You would want the lan to connect to the internet, a wide area network, (wan.)
The most common solution would be a router, which you appear to have. Each computer connects via a cable to the router. The router allows the computers to communicate and share resources, like drives and printers, creating your lan. The router connects via a cable to your Internet Service Providers gear, to the WAN, allowing your lan access to the outside world.
The laptop and the desktop must have ethernet ports. The ethernet port on the computers use a cat 5 cable to connect the computer and the router. Each computer must have an ethernet port, otherwise would would need to by an internal or external one.
The router connects via cat 5 to you internet service's equipment.
The gear today mostly auto-configures itself. You should be able to plug and go.
