What color to paint my walls for a rustic, Adirondack, cabin theme for my living room... and more ????s'?
I have recently purchased a grey couch and love seat wtih real lodge pole pine end tables and coffee table as accents. I removed everything off of the walls as i think i would like to paint the walls to give it a darker cozier feel (i rent so putting up wood or paneling is out of the question). What shades of paint would be good? My accessories for the walls have the rustic browns, greens, dark reds, dark blues. I would like to mimick wood tones without actually doing any faux finishes. This theme will be going through out the house, but i dont want to have the same color walls in every room. Any suggestions? I made an appointment with an interior decorator and she will be coming over for a free consultation. has anyone ever used an interior decorator and what can i expect from her consultation?
u named the colors... rustic brown, burnt orange/rust.... deep green... burgandy & deep blues. but if u really want a wood feel on u'r walls.. u would most likely have to do a dark glaze over the paint. It is basically simple.. paint u'r color for the base then take a darker brown mixed w/ glaze..(3parts to 1 part paint) then u need a good STIFF brush. do it in 2' sections down starting w/ the edge unless u'r really really fast. brush the glaze on then run the STIFF brush thru the glazed paint.. u have some time to play w/ it so figure how hard of u want to push on the brush thru the glaze. & drag it vertically....this will give it a wood like effect & darken u'r base paint... u could do one wall & c what u think. U can also practice this on some heavy paper or cardboad w/ a base coat.
hope that helps & i can't answer u on the decorator b/c they do vary in price from area to area to state to country. The bigger the city & the more in demand they r.... the higher the price, normally.
In an consulation... u should get some ideas from her for what u r going for. She should ask the ?'s about what u want.. & she's working for U... not what she likes. I do know this b/c I have worked w/ decorators on that.
