Can you use a wool saddle blanket instead of a fleece saddle pad?
Right now I use a fleece saddle pad. It is really really REALLY thick! I want something thinner but not so thin it will hurt my horses back. Can I just use the woven wool saddle blankets that usually have funky zig zags or indian designs on them?
Sorry I forgot to add that Yes It is western.
I would probably say no. If your saddle fits FABULOUS, then it's a possibility, but as a general rule, I would say pads should be about an inch thick for western. The only thing I use those thin pads for is under my thicker pad, to keep the underside clean.
