Vertical Baby Bath Sets - The Tummy Tub
One of the best baby bath sets that I've seen is the Tummy Tub.
Unconventional to say the least, it is like a clear plastic bucket with a supporting step which brings the bath to a level that takes the back ache out of bath time. With Mum or Dad sat on a chair or stool, the raised tub can be placed between their feet and this allows one hand to support baby's head, whilst the other splashes the water in the relevant places.
As a mother who watched her infant gain purchase with his feet on one side of a conventional baby bath and dive forward across my outstretched arm to head butt the wall on the other side, I am certainly in favour of the whole idea of vertical bathing.
Filled to the specified point with warm water, the Tummy Tub allows baby to assume the familiar position of the womb with its hands and feet able to touch the sides. Babies are familiar with this feeling of confinement from their time inside Mum's tum. This sense of security relaxes them whilst permitting the development of crucial arm and leg movements.
Mum or dad has only to gently support their infant's head with one hand as they carefully carry out the washing procedure. And if you have twins, you can bath them at the same time, their bodies naturally supporting each other with their heads out of the top of the Tummy Tub.
Unlike traditional baths, which offer vastly more space and require a lot more water, babies in the Tummy Tub are surrounded by the water and supported by the bottom and the walls so they don't need to be held so tightly. With their trunk supported by the water, the babies are able to develop the muscle movements of their arms and legs.
The Tummy Tub is extremely portable which means that babies can be bathed anywhere - bedroom, living room or a guest room if away from home. It is specially designed not to tip, even if you tilt it to a great angle whilst partially filled with water.
Being so light and requiring less water means that it is ideal for mothers who have had caesarean sections and are not able to lift the weight of a regular baby bath.
But the best thing of all is that, being immersed in warm water whilst adopting this familiar legs curled up to the tummy foetal position eases colic cramps, so a pre-bedtime bath for babies who suffer from with colic and other digestive disorders is extremely beneficial.
It seems to me that the Tummy Tub is a cut above the normal baby bath sets.
