techinical medical micro question..warning very technical?
has there been any cases in a medical micro lab where campylobacter has been apparently isolated from a patients stool sample only to turn out to be H.pylori. in other words a false positive campylobacter infection because H.pylori was isolated and mistaken for being campy??
just in addition to the answer above, H. pylori while endoscopy is predominantly used, it can be detected by blood, breath test and stool sample but are much less common methods so for that reason detection can't be ruled out just because endoscopy is the most common method for looking for it.
What the probability of mistaking campylobacter and H. pylori would obviously depend on the sensitivity/specificity of the test you were using that picked up supposed campylobacter - was it culture? or new fangled EIA/other rapid assays. However both are recognisably different shapes and H. pylori is done by HpSA (antigen testing) so one probably wouldn't routinely set out to culture H. pylori.
