What kind of brand should I feed my dog after trying a few brands?
I have a 9 month female puggle. My brother first got her and he fed her some dry food that was a German brand, silver bag with Cesar. When the dog came home, I started taking care of her because my brother was busy with school and work. We tried Pedigree and Cesar and felt as if she wasnt getting nutrients or she may have allergies so I went to Petsmart and bought Blue Buffalo dry food as well as Blue buffalo wet food. My dog tried it for a day or two and then she stopped eating it. I cooked her white rice and chicken which she loved, but her stool was watery so I stopped. My brother said he will go back to petsmart to buy that bag of German brand dry food because he does now know the name. Does anyone have suggestions as to what I should try feeding her?
For starters, stop spoiling your Pug x Beagle by feeding her wet food and chicken and rice. The only time chicken and rice is appropriate is for a dog with an upset stomach. And the reason your dog had loose stools is because you switched her food suddenly.
Pedigree and Cesar are both low quality foods. Blue Buffalo is a much better choice but you need to make the transition to any new food gradually. Mix the new food into the old food in increasing amounts over the course of at least a week.
If she starts refusing to eat the new food, leave it down for 15 minutes, then pick it and don't feed her again until her next scheduled meal. Once she learns that you're not going to give in to her, she'll eat the food you give her. Healthy dogs will not starve themselves.
Blue Buffalo is a good food but unless you get Blue Wilderness, it does contain grains. Here's a list of high quality foods to consider:
