Help! I can't turn the key in my 2004 Ford Mustang. Any idea why?
We have a 2004 Ford Mustang convertible that we just took out of winter storage. It was driven this weekend and this morning with no problems, but suddenly I can't turn the key in the ignition! A little red light that says "theft" flashes, but I can't turn the key at all. The car is in park and I have tried it with and without the emergency break on. I tried my husband's key and that won't work either. Any idea what this means or how I can bypass it? Is it an expensive repair? We just bought the car last spring, so we don't know tons about it yet. It doesn't have an alarm system. Thanks!

Usually jiggling your your steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key gently may help. Also check to see if you are really in PARK all the way.
Take a look at your key ring - do you have 2 or 3 pounds of keys hanging on it? That is not good for your ignition switch either.
Have you got the right key??
Try a different key too!
Is your foot on the brake pedal if this is an automatic shift car?
Does your car have a keypad to get you access to the car? Try pushing the buttons again. Push the clicker access button a couple times too. If you do have a theft alarm on this car - perhaps you could disable it temporarily and try the key switch. Some alarms have on and off switches under the dashboard somewhere - turn it off!
If all else fails read your owners manual. They may have a section on this problem.
