LDS/Mormon church members?
Can you tell me what the food storage is for or about. I am i Utah and I see, hear and recieve info in the mails about companies that sell the food storage supplies.
I have also seen it at Wal-mart.
I am just curios why the food storage is so important in the LDS/Mormon comminity.
I do't appreciate the LDS bashing. I am not LDS but I have respect.
I think the LDS chruch gets a lot of flack becuase it is a fairly new faith.
It's not a bad idea to be prepered. Specially in this day and age.
Food storage is exactly what it sounds like: the storing of extra food (though also other supplies such as blankets, cash, ect.) in case of an emergency.
It's just common sense, really. As often as disaster strikes, it's prudent to have emergency supplies on hand. I've had several friends who've used their supplies after the main breadwinner loses a job and the family doesn't have enough income to cover groceries for a short time, and I've used them myself after earthquakes and hurricanes. After Katrina hit, for instance, I lived on my emergency supplies for quite some time, as I couldn't have gotten to a store and wouldn't have found anything to buy even if I had.
And while church leaders have been stressing the need for food storage for many decades, at least where I live, it's recently become almost popular for people not of my faith to do the same. Then again, I live in Southern California, and we're always dealing with earthquakes, fires, floods, the occasional riot...again, it's just common sense.
It wouldn't hurt for you to start your own. All I do is buy a few more boxes of whatever might be on sale, and then stash it all in a closet or under my bed. Since I only buy what I'll eat anyway, I just use up the items close to expiration and then replace them when I can. It's also kind of nice to have extras on hand, because when I'm having one of my "I'm too lazy to get dressed and go to the store" days, I always have what I need for the rare days when I actually decide to cook.
